About Armadillo Tails

Early Years

Hi. We are Janet and Ken of Armadillo Tails. Married for thirty-three years, we have spent a large amount of time wilderness camping from our canoe. As our family grew, we moved up to a sailboat, and spent the last twenty-five years sailing the Florida Keys.

Ken is a military brat, moving every three-years and I am exactly the opposite. I have deep roots in Florida, lots of family, and my parents still live in the same home I grew up in. Ken is a left brain. (You will understand if you are married to one.) I’m a right brain. We do have one major, shared character trait: we both need to see if something better is just around the corner.

Just a few more steps and maybe we will come upon wildlife, a hidden pond, or meadow. A few more miles and maybe we find a cute town, museum, or restaurant. Just a little more water under our keel and maybe we find the perfect anchorage. Just a few more hours before we sleep because something special could happen at any moment and we don’t want to miss it. This need to see more, to experience more has actually gotten us in trouble a few times.

Our Adventure Begins

We started our RV adventure on February 14, 2018 and agreed to give it a year before we made a final decision about continuing. It didn’t take but a few months to know we loved it and if health allowed, we would keep going.

We travel with three fur babies. Joey the Labrador, and our cats: the ever argumentative Bitsy, and Butter the Ghost Cat. Dedicated animal lovers, there was never any question the pets would come along, no matter the challenge.

The Burrow

Our rolling home is a 2002 Bigfoot 29G named The Burrow, and after a few modifications, we are thrilled with her. A class C, the Burrow is Canadian-built. It’s well-designed, well-made, and able to withstand very cold temperatures so we stay warm and cozy.

Ken has always pined for a convertible and I have always loved Jeep. We purchased a new Jeep Wrangler soft top for our tow vehicle and promptly named him Armadillo.
